Moorit grey horned ram. May carry spotting (50% chance from mother). Born April 19, 2014.
This ram lamb shows promise to be quite the beefy fellow. April is our large Fence Row ewe, and Ferdinand is quite muscular and was fast growing. As he has grown, he has not disappointed. He continues to be the largest and fastest growing lamb of the year. He is very solidly built, especially over the rump and back. His hind legs are straight and even and of good width. His chest is about an average width, again with straight long legs, more like his mother than his father. His shoulders are wide and muscular. His muscles overall are thick and smooth; when I run my hand down his back and rump, I don’t barely feel the spine and hip bones. I suspect he will grow up to be a rather large ram at full size, based on his parentage and how well he’s growing. He appears to have his mother’s wool; abundant and fine. He has the best parasite resistance of the lambs so far; he has kept his color well, despite a lot of worm pressure. His horns so far are doing great. They definitely have that Ferdinand thickness he so often throws. His temperament is quite good too. It is very even overall, with just a hint of shyness if you move too swiftly. He enjoys being scratched by people, and is overall quite easy to handle. He’s also very forgiving; he can be given a drench, and minutes later come back looking for a scratching. I have begun lead training him.
